About us
Epping Bowls Club season has now completed for the winter of 2020. The club’s season was affected by restrictions because of the corona
virus. All plans were put on hold until June when we opened for members
following guidance from Bowls England.
Our clubhouse is also open, also subject to guidance, so we were pleased
to have bowls being played again at the club. Several internal competitions as well as friendly roll ups have already attracted some new members.
Play has been available most days through a booking system via our Club Secretary Anne Munro
Members
of Epping Bowls Club celebrated Presidents Day on Sunday 20th
September. Despite the challenges of this season with lockdown and the
Covid-19 virus, 40 players turned out for the annual Men v Women competition which the men narrowly won.
Members
have been able to enjoy roll ups and two internal competitions while adhering
to strict guidelines issued by Bowls England in agreement with Government advice.
Great
weather on Sunday played an important part in the day’s triples competition.
The men edged a win to claim the trophy 72 points to 65.
There
was also a presentation on the bowls green to President Peter Bates who has
been a member of Epping Bowls Club for 34 years. Peter will be 90 next month
and a special social celebration had been planned before government changes
took their toll.
Instead, members gathered on the bowls green to present Peter
with a personalised wine glass and bottles of red wine to mark his notable
celebration. Peter
said “It’s been a joy to be a member of Epping Bowls Club and enjoy a great fun
atmosphere where everyone is so friendly. It is a tribute to the Club that we
have been able to offer internal play for our members. We hope to get back to
full competition and social events next year.”
In recent
years the club has enjoyed a range of varied events, competitions and a
partnership with our neighbours Epping St Johns School. Students have enjoyed
‘come & try’ days and last season we celebrated our President Peter Bates’
pearl anniversary and 30 years as a member of the club.

Epping bowls club has been in existence since 1911. There are both
Ladies and Gents sections and when we are free of current restrictions, lots of
mixed friendlies throughout the season.
The club
can be a base for beginners, social members and for those who wish to play
in more competitive competitions within the county.
Club
members are encouraged to play in some of the in-house club competitions with
the silverware being presented at our annual dinner leading up to Christmas.
There are
also several social nights to attend throughout the outdoor season. The club
has a reputation for being a warm and welcoming group and we are
especially proud of this.
Bowls is a
social game but like all sports, can have its competitive edge. If you are
a beginner, you can take advantage of our coaching sessions and as you
progress, you will be exposed to more competitive matches.
Whatever
the result, you can debate it at length while using our bar and canteen
facilities.
There are
sets of bowls for you to use until you make your mind up which type suits you
best. We have an inexpensive dress code which is relaxed after 17:00 for casual
roll ups if there is no other official match in progress.
The club is
run and managed by the committee made up from its members. Everyone though has
a part to play in keeping the grounds playable and maintaining the facilities.

you would like to contribute to keeping this wonderful and traditional club
alive in Epping, please go to our contacts link above and let us know.
